It’s that time of year when everyone is showing a little more skin. In her FB Live video, Summer Etheredge aka Goddess Iya Wisdom shares some of her beauty secrets to help you have the most glowing skin, healthy hair, strong nails, and overall great health. Some of her suggestions are highlighted below.
2 Ingredient Skin Brightening and Energizing Drink
Blend key lime and pineapple with purified or distilled water for a simple, nutritious kick start to your day.
Key limes are recognizable as they are smaller than regular limes and significant in that they have higher alkalinity that their larger cousins. Key limes are high in Vitamin C which is not only an antioxidant that helps fight disease throughout the body but also is essential in the production of collagen, the stuff that keeps your skin looking young and fresh.
Summer suggests cutting up a fresh pineapple into manageable pieces, then freezing it for use as needed. In addition to high levels of disease fighting, collagen boosting, Vitamin C, pineapple is rich in other skin and body enhancing nutrients. A good source of potassium, copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium and beta carotene, pineapples assist with everything from oral health, to arthritis, vision, digestive health and cancer prevention. Also, some of the more adventurous among us may know it for the benefit that those who consume it regularly may borrow the natural scent and taste of the fruit for their person.
Summer suggests several supplements in the video. Depending on what form you get them in they may be added directly to the forementioned drink or taken at the same time as the drink. They can be found at nearly any place that sells supplements. As well as being good for overall health, they are excellent for healthy, clear skin, hair, and nails.
Black seed tablets. Cleopatra reportedly used black seed oil for beautiful skin and hair. Hippocrates, the Father of Western Medicine was prone to use it for digestive issues. The oil has profoundly healing benefits for the entire body aiding in hair and skin health is just the tip of the iceberg. The oil assists in maintaining a healthy weight, cancer prevention, and neurological health..
Spirulina algae is an excellent source of iron, protein, b-vitamins, is an antioxidant, and boasts a slew of other body nourishing elements. It provides energy, helps keep the skin clear, and assists with colon health.
Biotin assists in achieving clear skin as well as long, strong hair and nails. It is sometimes used for diabetes, brittle nails, and other conditions. Biotin plays a key role in the body. It supports the health of the skin, nerves, digestive tract, metabolism, and cells.
Summer suggests steaming the face in order to open the pores. This helps to both release toxins and prepare the skin to receive anything that is applied next. Though she doesn’t go into detail about her methods, one of the simplest ways to steam the face is to boil some water, pour it into a medium sized bowl, place your head over the bowl, and cover your head and bowl with a large towel. Some even take this time to add a few drops of an essential oil according to the particular effect they are seeking. For example, those seeking a relaxing experience may choose eucalyptus or lavender oil. For a more pore opening experience, I prefer peppermint.
A brown sugar & olive oil scrub follows steam. Sugar and sand are the most effective natural exfoliants. Exfoliation is paramount to healthy skin as it sloughs away old, dull skin and products. The molasses in the brown sugar, which lends its color, is rich in lactic acid,a natural acne fighter.
Olive oil is Summer’s moisturizer of choice. Referred to as liquid gold since ancient times, olive oil is a rich source of Vitamin E. It restores skin’s smoothness and protects against ultraviolet light. One caveat to choosing a good olive oil or any oil is to look for “first cold pressed oils”. They are more expensive. However, if you are seeking the health benefits of the oil, no other method retains the natural properties like cold pressing. Avocado is a good alternative if your skin does not react well to olive oil.
